1998 Marin East Peak
This was my second Marin after a brief spell with a Muirwoods (same as Matt’s). I wanted to go full suss and loved the way the bike rode – still do.
It’s very different to the Inbred and also substantially more agricultural. It’s NOT a light bike!!
The upgrade bug led me to add the rear lock out shock and then a front disc brake, followed a couple of years later by a rear using the universal torsion bar that Hope used to do.
It’s now got a Specialized BG saddle, Chris King headset, Hope hubs, Mavic rims, Easton bars and Marzocchi forks!

i had one of those lovelies back in 98 it took 2 months for it to get stolen iv still have my murwoods but its in bad shape, the ep was great in the time i had it ,like a bouncy tractor

Fixed the murwoods. Had to cut the frame to get seat post out. Welded it back up after. Patched up the paint.

Tengo esa máquina. La compré en el 98 y disfruté mucho con ella (ahora la uso muy esporádicamente) aunque me está entrando el gusanillo para volver a cogerla más a menudo. Me gustaría actualizarla (frenos de disco). Alguien me podría decir cómo instalo los traseros.

The rear brake used a special Hope adapter and I don’t think you can get it any more as it was for the Hope C2 brakes. It also needed a Hope Bulb rear Hub with a special spacer.

Hi Di,
I don’t think many 1998 FRS had the rear mounts but if yours did then you should be able to get it to work if you can get the correct adaptor for the M4. If there rear swing arm does not have two holes near the left hand drop out then no, you need to replace the swing arm. Some 99 frames did have them though so if the year is wrong you may be in luck. I used a special mount that Hope made for the C2 for bikes without mounts back in the day. Thanks, MuddyDave

Absolutely love this bike brought it the day it came out .(cost 2 months wages 1 st year electrician.)
Up graded the forks in 2002 ( marrizochi bombers) with hope mini disc brakes.
300,000 miles, 22 years later with 4 traffic offences its still going strong,
