Not at all dated
I like dates. I like cake. But somehow I have never put the two together. Saturday morning saw this disparity put to rest.
On our pleasant ride on Saturday morning I decided that the time had come to try a date slice. For reasons I cannot explain, I had always thought that I wouldn’t like it.
I am pleased to say that the date slice I had from the refreshements shop at the top of Box Hill was absolutely fantastic. Sweet enough to give a brief sugar rush, which is often needed after riding to the top of the hill, but not too heavy.
It was so good, that I even went looking for recipes, so I could make my own.
Lovely!

I’m a long term fan of the date and walnut slice. I’m not keen on dates or walnuts, but together they are a winning combination. The Box Hill cafe ones are very good, but for perfection I like them a little more done, with a bit of crunch and a firmer date element.
