Introduction to the Fe-moles

I have wanted us girl riders to be able to join in with the ride updates and news so I bullied Matt into letting me have a go!

We are a group of girls in our 30s or 40s who enjoy mountain biking and are friends, wives or partners of the Muddymoles. We have been aptly named the Fe-moles, much more suitable than mountain biking WAGS, because we aren’t just wives and girlfriends of… we are female mountain bikers who love cycling in the hills, trying new trails and certainly getting hot and muddy.

There are 5 of us so far, all with varying levels of experience and skills in the saddle. Me, I’m the one at the back but I don’t intend that to always be the case, hot on the wheels of the others I am closing in fast.

We meet up on a Saturday morning and tend to go for a ride that ranges from 2-4 hours depending what we want to do and how much time we have available before we have to get back to the more mundane things in life. We cover a variety of routes and trails and always looking for new places to conquer.

I always enjoy reading the tales on the Muddymoles blog of the boy’s adventures and thought it would be interesting to have the same for us fe-moles.

Some of us have cycled in Wales, Bedgebury in Kent, Swinley Forest in Berkshire as well as the local Surrey Hills. Three of us have also attended training days at Dirt Divas who conduct female only training days over at Crowthorne Woods.

We ride a variety of bikes from full suspension to hard hard tails but generally let the boys do the maintenance!

We welcome more riders and if there are any ladies reading this who fancy joining us or any fellas who know of female riders who are looking for a safe group to join cathie@muddymoles.org.uk.

So my first post has been an introduction and I look forward to sharing entertaining tales of our adventures, through the Autumn, Winter and beyond as well as hopefully meeting some new people.

    I have just stumbled upon your article, good on you, it’s about time you fe-moles came out of the woodwork.

    Quite impressed some of you ride hard hard tales, or is that an innuendo for something else.
