Andy’s hurt his hand
Oh dear! Andy hasn’t had a great deal of luck this year, what with having his bike stolen and everything. Now, just as he looks set to take delivery of a new Pace RC405, he breaks his hand!
The torrid riding conditions of the 2009 Bordon Enduro no doubt were a big contributing factor in all this. With the weather sheeting down conditions were super slippery and poor Andy came to grief in a Rhododendron bush, taking most of the impact with his hand (it’s not just Roadie-dendron Tony then).
Yesterday, Andy sent me the results of his trip to A&E – an X-ray of his hand and the evidence of a nastily broken metatarsal which may, or may not need to be pinned depending on the outcome of further medical opinion. Regardless, it’s going to be a while before he gets to sample that Pace.
Andy, you have my sympathy, that all looks rather painful. Hope you get well soon, I know just how frustrated you must feel!

Andy, I’m so gutted for you.
Having bust a couple of fingers and a metatarsal I know what its like. Just be patient and do your physio and you’ll be back out with us in no time.
That new Pace is going to get SOOOOO blinged while you’re unable to ride it!

I did much the same thing a few years ago. Its pinned back together with a shiny titanium screw.
I was back in working order within six weeks thanks to bupa and intensive physio post operation.
It took a while to get back to full strength but was at 80% strength within two weeks.
Mental recovery on hitting doubles though is still ongoing.

The good news is that an op is not required. The adjacent metacarpals (not tarsals, that’s your foot) are providing sufficient support, and the middle finger itself is not too far out of line.
Colin – you’re dead on regarding blinging up the Pace. Just bought a KSi900 adjustable seat post this morning, and a 10mm DT Swiss rear QR to stiffen up the back end.
Big debate now is what colour for the Chris King hubs ?
Andy W – fortunately it’s only a half splint, so I will still maintain a reasonable amount of movement which should seriously reduce the amount of physio required.
The great part was that I could choose from a range of colurs for it, so went for a patriotic red & green to make rude gestures at the All Blacks on Saturday from my seat in the Arms Park (and that must count as physio too)!
I hope to be back out on the trails in early Dec, but will use a static bike in the next few weeks and maybe risk a road commute towards the end of Nov.
Time to hit the running m/c too in order to maintain the teak hard physique and race honed muscle definition!

Which KS seatpost did you get? The remote or the lever one? I got a remote 2 weeks ago, but didn’t get the chance to test it yet…

I can vouch that being off the bike for 6 weeks (dislocated shoulder) will no doubt result in the purchasing of new kit! I have managed to buy a whole bike in seperate bits off ebay whilst I have been a non-rider! Just gotta put it all together now that I can move my arm again. I can only sympathize with you and encourage you to do all the physio you’re given. As far as the hubs are concerned, for me, it’s gotta be MANGO with a matching headset and bottom bracket! Sweet!

BTW KSi900? Niceeeeeee. I have been looking and am tempted. It’s a pity you won’t be able to give an opinion on it for a while!

As for not being able to give an opinion on the KSi900, surely you can adapt it and use it as an office chair! That’s what these things started out as anyway!
That way you can maintain some ‘saddle time’. Could pay dividends ;o)
@Rob: Ouch! Nasty sounding injury. When I busted the collarbone I remember thinking ‘please don’t let it be dislocated’ as I’ve heard that’s very painful. Hope you back on the trails soon.

The new, all white, Revelation 150mm fork has arrived to match the white DT Swiss rims. For the hubs, the mango, brown, gold and grey were all seriously considered; but brown & grey (just too dull), gold (just too Dizzee Rascal), and mango (just too ‘tango’) have all been dropped in favour of the green.
It is a shiny green, and the green Race Face Atlas bars should complement it nicely, supported by a Hope ‘gunmetal grey’ stem with shiny silver brake levers/reservoirs hanging off it. I can’t get a matching headset as the Pace needs an integrated headset that Chris King don’t make, and the Hope colour choice for this is as extensive as Henry Ford’s original options.
If I could have found a matching mango coloured stem that might have swung it back in favour; that’s your mission, bike bling seekers, should you choose to accept it.
