LH Thomson

As with many of the respected brands in the world of bike building, the LH Thomson company, manufacturer of simply the best seatposts and stems available bears the name of the man who founded the company.

For those of us lucky enough to be able to pick and choose what components go on our bikes, Thomson seatposts are the default choice as they’re strong, reliable and retain their looks over time, especially if like me you take simple steps to keep them shiney (what!?). In fact I have two posts and a stem from LH Thomson and I’m delighted with their performance, as you’d expect from a company whose founding engineer has a background in aeronautical engineering.

Sadly, LH Thomson himself passed away on Jan 13 at the age of 68. Curiously, his hometown of Macon in Georgia has an annual LH Thomson appreciation day which gives those who feel strongly enough the opportunity to eat BBQ, take part in a variety of events and visit the factory.

I personally shall pass on what may possibly be a highlight of the Georgian social calendar, but I thought it worth marking LH Thomson’s passing.

Thanks for reading,
Matt
