Titus is one of those iconic brands from the US of A that has for years produced top quality Carbon, Ti and aluminium frames. In particular they have led the field with their Exogrid technology which uses a mesh of carbon and titanium to produce a unique frame solution.

Unfortunately this cult status also came with a cult price tag that meant the company was vulnerable in the post-financial-crash climate. The resulting insolvency has led to an auction of Titus assets and now Planet X, On-one’s cleaner and more presentable sibling has bought the brand.

What this means in practice is unclear. Have they just got the right to use the name? Or have they in fact acquired the intellectual property of Titus itself, like the well-regarded suspension platforms that On-one lack, or the hydroformed titanium and Exogrid technology too?

I suspect it does and also expect them to start building some cracking On-One full-suspension bikes using the Titus know-how with Far East manufacturing costs. At the same time, why not continue with production of the high-end Titus brand itself?

Where and how that pans out will be interesting to watch.
