Mucky Nutz Bar End plugs review
Bar ends, not the most exciting of things but they give the bike the finishing touch and can be a handy feature, especially if you fall off and land on the ends of the bar. They will prevent the apple coring type of injury which could be (just a little bit) painful.
These bar tabs from Mucky Nutz are an interesting idea; have a beer, recycle the glass bottle and use the bottle top as a bar end.
OK, first thing to do is to fit them, not rocket science, just slide them into the bar end and tighten them up with the allen key provided. These are the draught bar tabs which use an elastomer expander to tighten inside the handlebar, which provides a good tight fit.
Now comes the hard part, selecting a suitable beverage. Relax, consume and finally just push on the bottle top to the end of the bar end, simples!
I chose a Bud for the colour scheme.
I also thought I would check what happens if you fall off! Have another Bud and clip another one on. Now when I fell off the bottle top came off and I damaged the end of the bar but it has not affected its performance.
I like these Mucky Nutz Bar Tabs as they are good value for money at £10, they’re simple and look good. If the caps get scratched it’s also cheap to replace them and of course is a good excuse to buy some more beer!

I’m glad to see that you took your product testing to commendable new levels by falling over on Sunday in the concrete bowl at the top of Coombe Bottom. Those beer caps save a lot of damage!

Now that both bar grips are rather worn at the ends (and otherwise they are fine and I am happy with them), is it just a matter of cutting off the ends of the bar grips are inserting these into the handle itself ?
These would be cheaper and funkier than just getting new grips, plus I get a chance to do some important end-design research.

If you have closed end grips then yes you’d need to cut those off. You could takje the opportunity to fit some new “lock-on” style grips as well. Superstar Components have theirs back in stock and you can choose the the colour of the anodised bits as well as the grip itself to come up with a new style solution!!!!

Thanks Dave, mine are lock-on one end, closed the other. So I will cut the ends off but looking at the Superstar components website, I am tempted to replace them anyways.

Thanks for the offer Dave, do I need a lock-on ring after cutting off the end which is currently just rubber or am I misunderstanding ? The current ones are Bonty Race lock-ons or something like that from my previous bike as I have always felt comfortable with them. I was just going to cut off the rubber ends (well one is almost gone anyways now) off, and then using the Bar Ends. If there are any fit problems then I would decide amongst SC’s offerings.
Not sure about bling, as everything on my bike is black, ‘cos black is cool 😉 . Even Rebellion’s beer tops are black as well, as is my backpack and most of my clothing, helmet etc …..

Ahhh…they sound like they only lock-on at the one end then, so you should be ok.

I fear I have just started down a long slippery slope….
First, just to reiterate, these are great. Protect your grips and look good with easy design changes. It is surprising how often the bar ends get little nudges and scratches, my grips are now safer and replacements are so easy.
So having a few scratches I visited the drinks fridge and rather than just pick a bottle of Rebellion White (a wheat beer) I perused my wife’s shelf… Bacardi Breezers, Smirnoff… etc. Hmm the tops on the Smirnoff would look good on the bike, so I had to have two of them. The drink was not brilliant but the red tops look pretty good on the bike. Oh dear, what have I done, will my mates ever forgive me, can I cycle to the Rebellion brewery again ?

I’ve heard some excuses for drinking anything in desperation in my time, Steven, but “the tops on the Smirnoff would look good on the bike, so I had to have two of them” beats the lot !
So when James Pro turns up with a mismatched set of Drambuie and Jagermeister bar-ends, we know his missus is giving him a tough time 😉
